Kenyatta University involved in the Development and validation of the IGAD Sustainable Tourism Master Plan
Kenyatta University once again represented the region in the drafting and development of the IGAD Sustainable Tourism Master Plan (2012-2017), commissioned by IGAD and the UNECA. The Committee of Experts Kenyatta University delegates we ably represented by Dr. Geoffrey Manyara (Senior Regional Tourism Adviser – UNECA); Mr. Rayvissic Mutinda (Kenyatta University) and Mr. Shem Maingi (Kenyatta University) within two sessions in Addis ababa, Ethiopia and Kampala, Uganda on the 17TH – 19TH June 2012 and the 3RD -5TH October 2012 respectively. The tourism master plan profiles tourism as an avenue through which Africa can transform and develop and seeks to enhance the industry’s role as a vehicle for economic development and growth through the establishment of a conducive environment, regional cooperation, advocacy and stakeholder participation. The main aim of the Tourism master plan, is to provide IGAD member states with a regional framework for sustainable tourism development with a view to contributing to socio-economic development and poverty alleviation and to promoting regional integration.
